Our Story

We want to share our love for Kansas’ agricultural heritage through agritourism experiences that entertain, engage and educate.

We care deeply for the land that is used to grow crops, raise livestock, and strengthen our communities. As generational farmers, we strive to be good stewards of this land and work to safeguard its natural resources and food production that enables our local communities to thrive.

We feel strongly about connecting consumers to farming and educating them about the abundant cultural heritage and traditions within agriculture. We believe everyone should know why it's important to know where your food comes from, the process by which it happens, and the way it impacts everyone’s everyday life.

Better understanding enables consumers to make more informed choices and empower decision making that directly impacts their personal health and well-being. Not to mention that learning about food origins encourages better interdependence and interaction between urban and rural communities. Caring, appreciating and supporting agriculture is a community responsibility that we hope you will desire to join with us in fulfilling.

 We believe in:

  1. Responsible, sustainable farming practices

  2. Providing access to local, fresh, nutritious, and affordable food for all

  3. Building relationships and communities

  4. Sharing the simplicity, beauty, and tranquility of living closely to the land

McGinn's Grapes & Grains, belonging to Mark and Carolyn McGinn and formerly known as Equus Beds at McGinn Farm, has been family owned and operated since 1976.

However, our roots to farming stretch much further back through multiple generations on both sides of the family. Mark's family, upon emigrating from Ireland to Sedgwick, KS in 1873, began farming soon after their arrival. And Carolyn's family history runs deeply through Valley Center, KS where they originally homesteaded and farmed for generations.

Because the vast Arkansas River Valley's alluvial soils are made up of limestone and shale, from a once shallow inland sea, it is one of the most productive agricultural soils in the state. This rich soil has provided Mark and Carolyn the opportunity to raise their two sons while caring for the land and supplying food locally and abroad.
